About Mexico Las Hortensias Coffee
An organic washed SHG from Chiapas. Milk chocolate and toffee with a smooth tangerine brightness.
Mexico Las Hortensias is an organic washed single origin from Chiapas, the engine of Mexican coffee. Coffee arrived in Mexico in the late 1700s and Chiapas now grows 40% of the country's entire crop, on rich volcanic soils between 1,300 and 1,700 metres. That altitude earns the SHG grade, strictly high grown, and the region's mix of micro-climates and rainfall patterns is what builds the classic Chiapas cup: chocolate, caramel and citrus in balance. Mexico is also one of the world's largest exporters of organic coffee, and this lot carries both EU and NOP organic certification. Grown by farmers across the region under the Las Hortensias selection. Roasted weekly at our Hurstville roastery in Sydney.
Flavour notes
- Milk chocolate and toffee through the body, smooth and sweet
- Tangerine brightness in the middle, soft and juicy
- Clean citric finish
Best for
A smooth, sweet all-rounder with a point of difference. As espresso the chocolate-toffee core makes an easy, rounded shot for flat whites and lattes. Filter brewing lifts the tangerine and shows the citrus side. A great pick for organic-minded drinkers who don't want to trade away sweetness, and a friendly introduction to Mexican coffee.
