About Kenya Single Origin Coffee

2019 Sydney Royal Bronze Medal winner. The Kenyan profile every specialty drinker knows: blackcurrant, lemon, and toffee depth.

Kenya is a single origin specialty coffee. Roasted weekly at our Hurstville roastery in Sydney. Recognised at the 2019 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show with a Bronze Medal in the Plunger Coffee category. This is what specialty coffee drinkers chase when they want bright, complex, fruit-forward African coffee with classic Kenyan structure.

Flavour notes

  • Lemon brightness in the aroma and finish
  • Blackcurrant — the signature Kenyan note, bold and jammy
  • Toffee sweetness through the body, rich and balanced

Best for

Filter coffee drinkers and plunger brewers — this is where Kenya shines (and won bronze). Long blacks and Americanos. Anyone who wants their coffee to taste vivid and complex rather than smooth and chocolatey. Best enjoyed black to experience the full blackcurrant-lemon-toffee arc.

Tasting profile

Body: Medium, juicy
Acidity: Bright, lively
Sweetness: Toffee, blackcurrant
Roast level: Light-medium

Brewing recipes

  • Plunger / French press: 1:15 ratio, coarse grind, 4 minute steep — the award-winning method for this coffee
  • Filter / V60: 1:16 ratio (60g per litre), medium grind, 94-96°C water, 3:30 brew time
  • AeroPress: 17g coffee, 220g water at 90°C, 2 minute steep, gentle plunge

Espresso is possible but Kenya is at its best as filter or plunger — the brightness and complexity get muted at espresso pressure. Call (02) 9580 1300 or drop into the Hurstville roastery for brewing help.
